Latvian – Kazakhstan Business cooperation Council participants will meet in Astana.

1On January 17 the assembly of Business cooperation council of Latvia – Kazakhstan (hereinafter – Council) took place in Astana. Yuris Maklakov , the extraordinary and authorized ambassador of Latvia in Kazakhstan, Latvian ministry of Communication and employers delegations participated in the organised assembly. During the assembly participants discussed transport, transit and logistics policy, cooperation in areas of science and education, power industry and aviation issues. Participants also agreed on proposals to the subsequent assembly of the intergovernmental commission.

The assembly in Astana was organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of LR and the Latvian confederation of employers. The delegation was headed by Ugis Magonis - JSC " Latvijas Dzelzceļš " (Latvian Railway) president, the vice-president of LEC, the Council cochairman. The coworker of the Saeima chairman Andrey Klementyev and the deputy of the state secretary of the ministry of Communication Uldis Reymanis who participated in bilateral meetings with the Kazakhstan vice-minister of transport and communication Azat Bekturov.

2The delegation of Kazakhstan included representatives of the government and employers of transit, education and trade branches. Askar Mamin, the Council cochairman, JSC „Казахстан Темiр Жолы" (Kazakhstan railway)president managed the assembly on behalf of Kazakhstan.

During negotiations and Council assembly the Latvian party discussed Latvia with the Kazakhstan colleagues and prospects of Kazakhstan transit transportation intensification, assessed opportunities of involving China.

U.Magonis specified that Kazakhstan is one of the most strategically significant partners of railway cooperation in freight transportation. "We are glad that this cooperation improves every year ,proving constantly increasing volume of container cargoes to and through Kazakhstan.We hope that we will manage to reach higher freight transportation development level to and through Kazakhstan that would be favorable to both countries", U.Magonis explains.

A.Mamin emphasized that Kazakhstan considers Latvia as the strategic market of export production realization. In the field of aviation parties agreed on the necessity to renew the direct flight Riga-Almaty during 2013-2014. In the field of education the issue of closer cooperation of the higher schools of Latvia – Kazakhstan was discussed. The agreement to prepare Latvian proposals to the fourth intergovernmental commission assembly of the Latvia – Kazakhstan that is planned in April, this year, in Astana was reached.

3Additional information:
Council of Business cooperation of Latvia - Kazakhstan was established in 2010 on the basis of the Cooperation contract signed by LEC and employers confederation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The contract on Cooperation expects closer cooperation of employers organizations and the development of the economic relations of both countries.

One of LEC priorities is strengthening the external economic relations of Latvia with other countries, forming councils of economic cooperation. In recent years LEC acted as the initiator of the incorporated economic cooperation council establisment with the employers organizations of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan.
